OHC, the region’s leaders in the treatment of adult cancers and complex blood disorders, is expanding its critical services to the community with a new Breast Surgical Oncology Program. Fellowship-trained board-certified breast surgical oncologists, Nicole M. Melchior, DO, FACS, and Abigail M. Tremelling, MD, FACS, joined the independent cancer group on January 24, 2022, and will offer the full spectrum of breast care.
With extensive experience in the latest surgical techniques, Dr. Melchior brings years of experience in the treatment and management of malignant breast disease to OHC. At the core of her patient care philosophy is her belief that every patient is unique and should be involved in developing an individualized treatment plan. While she enjoys the complexity of the breast surgical oncology field, she is equally rewarded by forming close relationships with her patients.
With a keen awareness of the importance of working with a multidisciplinary team to provide superior care, Dr. Tremelling finds value in collaborating with a team of experts from a variety of specialized fields. She considers it a privilege to care for someone during their battle with cancer and delivers unmatched compassion to patients.
“I can confidently say, on behalf of my colleagues, that we are delighted to grow our multidisciplinary care team with the addition of these talented doctors,” said Elizabeth H. Levick, MD, OHC radiation oncologist and Chair of the practice Board of Directors. “Dr. Melchior and Dr. Tremelling bring a wealth of knowledge and surgical expertise to provide the best outcomes for our patients.”
Doctors Melchior and Tremelling are highly skilled in the latest technology and minimally invasive advanced surgical techniques. They will collaborate with OHC’s team of oncologists and cancer genetic specialists to develop individualized treatment plans for the management of:
- all breast cancer types
- high-risk lesions
- women at a high risk for breast cancer
- patients with abnormal breast imaging
- male breast disease
- benign breast lesions.
“The addition of a Breast Surgical Oncology Program is a natural next step for OHC as it strengthens its promise to surround patients with all they need to beat cancer,” said Dené C. Wrenn, MD, MS, gynecologic oncologist and Chair of the OHC Gynecologic Oncology Department. “Through our comprehensive services, we strive to alleviate the stress of those faced with a cancer diagnosis. From diagnosis through survivorship, patients should have peace of mind knowing they’ve made the best choice in breast cancer care, and they’ll have that with Dr. Melchior and Dr. Tremelling.”
