Radiation Oncology

Matthew H. Bertke, MD, is a radiation oncologist who specializes in lung cancer, breast cancer, head and neck cancers, prostate cancer, and metastatic lesions. His areas of special interest include stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for lung, bone, liver, and adrenal lesions. Dr. Bertke also specializes in respiratory and organ motion management and tumor tracking techniques.

Dr. Bertke decided to specialize in radiation oncology because it provides him with the opportunity to utilize advanced technology in the precise treatment of cancer and build personal relationships with his patients as they navigate through their course of treatment. “I also enjoy that at OHC, treating cancer is a team approach. It requires coordination among our radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, the entire clinical treatment and support teams, and the patient and their family.”

In addition to his expertise in radiation therapy, Dr. Bertke believes it is crucial to treat every patient with respect and compassion. “Each patient’s situation is unique, and it is important to take a collaborative approach to creating an individualized treatment plan that is also built on a solid foundation of scientific knowledge and clinical expertise. A fundamental part of this collaboration is spending time with patients to explain their diagnosis, discuss treatment options, and make sure all of their questions are answered.”

When he isn’t working, Dr. Bertke enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, swimming, being outdoors, and building or repairing things.
