OHC advanced practice provider and lead cancer genetic specialist, Andrew “Andy” Guinigundo, MSN, RN, CNP, ANP-BC, was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology (APSHO), a society for nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical nurse specialists, pharmacists, and advanced degree nurses. APSHO’s mission is to improve the quality of care for patients with cancer by supporting critical issues in educational, clinical, and professional development for advanced practitioners in hematology and oncology.

Andy, a resident of Hyde Park, OH, has been serving OHC patients for nearly 21 years and has been a member of APSHO since 2016, most recently serving as Chair of its Professional Development and Leadership Committee. He was instrumental in establishing OHC’s Genetic Risk Evaluation and Testing (GREAT) Program in 2017. The GREAT Program provides genetic counseling and testing for people who may be at risk for a hereditary cancer syndrome and is an important component of OHC’s quality cancer care and prevention services. It recently received an Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC)/Pfizer grant aimed at increasing genetic testing in breast cancer patients.

“At OHC, Andy’s passion for oncology and hematology is consistently evident,” said OHC medical oncologist and hematologist, Randy Drosick, MD, who also serves as the President of OHC. “It’s rewarding to see a member of our team helping to shape the landscape of healthcare and improve the quality of care for cancer patients.”

“When I first learned about the formation of APSHO, I wanted in!” said Andy. “It’s an advanced provider society designed by advanced practitioners and caters to our special skill set and needs. I hope to bring a perspective to the Board that is as unique as OHC, a private community practice with the backing of a major national network that is involved in cutting edge care, research, and genetics.”

OHC, the region’s leading experts in the treatment of nearly every form of adult cancer and complex blood disorders, has been fighting cancer on the front lines for more than 35 years.
