From OHC, Specialists in the Treatment of Adult Cancers and Blood Disorders

October 7, 2020

For women who receive a breast cancer diagnosis, OHC will lead you through your cancer journey and surround you with the treatments and services you need to beat your disease.

Some patients may experience fatigue and nausea from the treatment, which leaves them struggling to perform daily activities like cooking, cleaning and driving to their appointments. This is when OHC connects patients with cancer community support resources that provide additional support during this challenging time.

“When patients need extra support, we connect them with one of the many wonderful cancer community organizations to help,” says OHC’s Arleen Wuestefeld, MSN, APRN, Advanced Practice Provider. “These organizations provide patients with valuable services, including those that help with day-to-day activities. This helps alleviate guilt the patient may be feeling for not being able to care for their family or their home.”

One of those organizations is Pink Ribbon Girls, a non-profit organization created by women with breast cancer to support and empower others who are currently in the fight against breast and gynecologic cancers. Pink Ribbon Girls provides free services to support women throughout Cincinnati, Columbus, and Dayton.

“At Pink Ribbon Girls, we’re here to make the burden lighter by providing free, direct services for our clients. And there are no restrictions regarding age, income or what stage your cancer is,” said Julie Miller, Regional Director, Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

Services include:

  • Healthy Meals – Healthy and nutritious meals which target the nutrients a cancer patient needs, prepared by executive chefs and professionally delivered to your home
  • Housecleaning – Provided by professional, bonded and insured cleaning services
  • Rides to Treatment – Provided by trained transportation specialists
  • Peer Support – Offering you the support you need in the community you are in

“Pink Ribbon Girls is a great organization,” said OHC patient and PRG client Dawn Stott who lives in Lawrenceburg, IN with her husband, Mike. “After my double mastectomy, they helped us with meals and housecleaning, which was great because I wasn’t allowed to do any pushing, pulling or lifting, and my husband was still working. Actually, except for two weeks, we both continued to work, and their services made it much easier for us.”

In the Cincinnati and Dayton regions in 2019, Pink Ribbon Girls served 64,101 healthy meals, provided 3,333 rides to treatment and 1,501 house cleanings to our clients and their families. These services are projected to increase by 30% in 2020.

At OHC, we understand the impact a breast cancer diagnosis can have on you and your family.
